Page 6 of 9 The Different ScoutLinksScoutLink provides many separate services which are available to use all year. They are run by mostly the same volunteers. The Global ScoutLink Council has overall responsibility for all of these services. ScoutLink IRC - Internet Relay ChatIRC is, without a doubt, the most well known about and well used for of ScoutLink. IRC is a text only chat environment in which you normally talk in channels. Channels are groups of people. On ScoutLink IRC Channels are setup by the Council and you are only allowed to talk in these channels. All channels have a team of operators that work hard to enforce the rules. ScoutLink TeamSpeak - Digital Voice ChatTeamSpeak servers are commonly used for gaming however, we put TeamSpeak to another use - connecting Scouts and Guides around the world. Like ScoutLink IRC, TeamSpeak has preset channels that you can talk in and the channels are monitored by operators. ScoutLink Community - ScoutLink on E-mailScoutLink Community is a Yahoo! Group that allows you to chat by e-mail. Approval to join the group is required. ScoutLink Community was launched in February 2008 Other ScoutLink E-mail listsScoutLink has several other E-mail lists, mostly on Yahoo! Groups - but some are hosted on ScoutLink Servers. Details of these e-mail lists can be found on the ScoutLink interest website that they serve. For example, UK Discuss - the UK ScoutLink E-mail list - details are on the ScoutLink UK Website. ScoutLink ForumsThere is currently no central ScoutLink Forum for everyone, however many different ScoutLink websites include them. ScoutLink on USENET - NewsgroupsScoutLink has several Newsgroups on USENET that you are welcome to chat on. They can be found under scout.org.scoutlink. |
