In order to keep ScoutLink as safe as possible for Scouts and Guides we have a high level of "operators" on the network. The powers of the different operators vary. Members of the #youth-team can deal with problems in the #youth channels (#youth, #youth-uno and #youth-kaos) through explaining to someone breaking the rules what they are doing wrong, removing the person from the channel (kicking) and preventing the person from getting into the channel (banning). IRCops have more powers than the #youth-team (IRCops are appointed for a country and not for a channel). These can disconnect people from ScoutLink (kill) and prevent them from connecting (gline). IRCops can also stop people on ScoutLink from being able to talk to anyone else on the network (zombie). A list of IRCop that are currently online at any time can be found by typing /ircops. As well as the humans that are on hand to deal with problems the #youth-bot, Mainframe, is online 24 hours a day 7 days a week and has been programmed to deal with many problems automatically. These measures we believe should help keep young people safe while on the ScoutLink network, however we are unable to see what happens in private messages. Therefore it should be explained to young people not to give personal information out on the Internet (actually, this should probably be done before they go on the internet regardless of what ScoutLink does).
If there is a problem in private message use /ircops to find a list of IRC operators and explain to them exactly what has happened. They will then deal with the problem. |
