Not everyone can access SL sing the current client. by using php::irc it well bypasses some nasty things called proxies and firewalls so it doesn't have to have the port opened

We do plan to bring back a none-java webchat at some point - however there will be no progress made on this untill next year now.

http://youth.scoutlink.net/cgiirc is now working as a none-Java webchat.
